The Los Angeles Dodgers evened their three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night behind Max Muncy’s go-ahead two-run homer off Zack Wheeler in the top of the fourth inning.
It was Muncy’s 228th career home run with the Dodgers, which tied Ron Cey for second in L.A. franchise history.
“That’s really cool,” Muncy said on SportsNet LA after the Dodgers’ 2-1 win at Citizens Bank Park. “I actually didn’t know that. I knew I was getting close to Cey, but I didn’t know that one did it. It’s really, really cool.
“I always say any time you’re on any type of leaderboard when it comes to this organization, you’ve done something right. So for me, that means a lot.”
Only Eric Karros has more home runs for the Dodgers since they moved from Brooklyn with 270. Muncy is only 42 home runs away from reaching that mark and seemingly would have a good chance to do so next year if he can stay healthy.
Duke Snider is the all-time Dodgers home run king with 389. He’s followed by Gil Hodges, who hit 361 homers in his Dodgers career.
Muncy is already the Dodgers’ all-time postseason home runs leader with 16, which he accomplished last year. That record was previously shared by Corey Seager and Justin Turner.
Muncy ranks fourth among MLB third basemen with 19 homers this season, trailing only Junior Caminero (29), Manny Machado (22) and Kazuma Okamoto (21). The three-time World Series champion is on track to finish with his highest total since 2023, when he hit 36.
Muncy has already slugged two home runs since the All-Star break, both of which gave the Dodgers a 2-1 victory, and is on pace to finish the year with 33. That would be his fourth-highest total in any single season.

Muncy has hit 129 home runs in his career at Dodger Stadium and is only two away from breaking Karros’ record. The Dodgers begin their next homestand on July 28 with series against the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox.
L.A. has 31 more home games this season, which should be more than enough for Muncy to become the new all-time Dodger Stadium home run leader.
The 35-year-old is in his ninth season with the Dodgers and became the team’s longest-tenured player when Clayton Kershaw retired.
