The American League reclaimed some control over the National League with their 4-0 win in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park.
NL won three All-Star Games in a row from 2010-12, but since 2013, the AL is now 11-2. Included in that stretch was seven consecutive wins in the Midsummer Classic from 2013-22; the game was not played in 2020 due to the CORONAVIRUS pandemic.
Overall, AL All-Stars are now 49-45-2 all-time in the exhibition’s history. The 2026 All-Star Game was the AL’s first shutout since 2013.
Philadelphia Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez received the starting nod in front of his hometown fans but labored through a 34-pitch first inning that saw the AL take a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of New York Yankees All-Stars. Cody Bellinger delivered a two-run single and Ben Rice followed with an RBI base hit. Bellinger was voted 2026 MLB All-Star Game MVP.
That was all the offense the AL team needed. Their pitchers combined to shut down the NL offense behind 15 strikeouts. The NL team managed just three hits. The 2026 AL team became the first in All-Star Game history with at least 15 strikeouts by their pitchers in a shutout.
Their 10 different pitchers with at least one strikeout tied the All-Star Game record for most on one team.
Dodgers in the All-Star Game
Freddie Freeman was among three Dodgers starters and expressed a hope to come up with a hit due to his in-laws attending their first All-Star Game. Freeman unfortunately went 0-for-2 but did draw a walk and showed off his flexibility and defensive skillset on multiple occasions. Freeman was removed from the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Max Muncy also went 0-for-2, popping up in both of his at-bats. Muncy came out at the start of the fifth as well. Andy Pages finished 0-for-2 prior to being removed in the sixth inning. Pages struck out in his first at-bat then was robbed of a hit by Ernie Clement ranging to his right and making a jump throw to end the fifth inning.

Pages also had a chance to show off his defensive range by tracking down a fly ball in the gap to rob former teammate Miguel Vargas. Pages was replaced by Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong at the start of the sixth.
Justin Wrobleski bucked his trend by striking out the side in the seventh inning. Wrobleski also pitched in the eighth but gave up a solo home run to Vargas. Wrobleski finished with five strikeouts over two innings in his first All-Star appearance.
Wrobleski became the first pitcher with five strikeouts in an All-Star Game since Pedro Martínez accomplished the feat in 1999. That’s all the more fitting considering it’s Martínez who bestowed the “Shark” nickname on Wrobleski.
Don Drysdale (1959) and Fernando Valenzuela (1986) are other Dodgers pitchers with five strikeouts in a single All-Star Game appearance.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto did not pitch in this year’s All-Star Game, which wasn’t much of a surprise considering he started on July 11.
Dave Roberts’ All-Star record
The 96th edition of the Midsummer Classic marked a fifth time Dave Roberts served as the NL manager. His All-Star Game record is now 3-2.
Roberts was at the helm when the NL lost in 2018, then he guided the team to wins in 2019, 2021 and 2025 before the streak was snapped this year. Roberts nevertheless became the third manager to lead the NL All-Star team on at least five occasions.
Former Dodgers manager Walt Alston holds the NL record with nine and Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame skipper Bobby Cox led the NL five times.
