Brock Stewart Expected To Return For Start Of Dodgers’ Road Trip

A long list of injured Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers could start to thin in the coming weeks, and in the case of Brock Stewart, as soon as Monday.

Stewart has been on the 15-day injured list since May 9 because of a bone spur in his left foot. He began to feel discomfort after covering first base in just his second appearance of the year. Stewart’s 2026 season had already been delayed because of the recovery from having right shoulder surgery last September.

Stewart now is poised to join the Dodgers once again, with manager Dave Roberts pointing to Monday as the expected date to be activated off the IL. It comes on the heels of Stewart completing a short rehab assignment with Single-A Ontario.

He first pitched for the Tower Buzzers on June 12, allowing one run over one inning. Stewart then appeared in games on June 14, 18 and 19. Completing the back-to-back was seemingly the final checkpoint before returning to the Dodgers.

The rehab assignment pales in comparison to the length of Stewart’s time in the Minors earlier this year, which was three and a half weeks. Fewer rehab games were expected this time around, with the Dodgers more focused on the health of his left foot than the need for a full buildup.

The 34-year-old was encouraged by how he came out of pitching on back-to-back days in his rehab assignment.

A subsequent roster move is going to be needed in order for the Dodgers to activate Stewart. The team may designate Jonathan Hernández for assignment, or potentially option one of Edgardo Henriquez, Kyle Hurt or Chayce McDermott back to Triple-A Oklahoma City. McDermott was recalled Saturday when Blake Treinen went on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation.

However it unfolds, Stewart is looking to finally have an extended stay on the Dodgers roster. He only appeared in four games last year after being acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline, and had the aforementioned pair of appearances so far this season.

When Stewart is healthy, the Dodgers view him as one of their options to rely on in high-leverage situations. In his six appearances since last season’s trade, he’s allowed two runs and struck out six batters over 5.2 innings.
