Dodgers Focused On Brock Stewart’s Foot Rather Than Length Of Rehab Assignment

Brock Stewart started a rehab assignment over the weekend as he still looks to make an impact since being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline in 2025.

Stewart only appeared in four games for the team last season before going on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation that eventually led to having surgery. He started this year on the IL and pitched just twice prior to getting sidelined because of a bone spur in his left foot.

Dodgers worried about Brock Stewart’s foot

Pitchers can spend up to 30 days on a rehab assignment, which is most valuable for a starter who needs to fully stretch out. Given that Stewart is a reliever, he possibly wouldn’t need to spend as long on his rehab, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts isn’t yet certain of the length.

“I don’t know that answer,” Roberts said on SportsNet LA. “I know it’s a buildup situation, but it’s also a foot, kind of how that responds to the workload. So I don’t know that answer right now.”

During his first rehab assignment this season, Stewart pitched in eight Minor League games over a three-week span prior to getting activated. Stewart threw a total of 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out 13 batters in those eight games.

All appeared well until he aggravated the bone spur while covering first base in his second appearance for the Dodgers, which prompted the IL stint.

Given that Stewart had been pitching through the issue on his landing foot without symptoms, he and the Dodgers are facing some uncertainty moving forward. He conceivably could get back to the point of feeling healthy, only for that to change a moment later.

It’s not believed the Dodgers considered having Stewart undergo surgery, which Edwin Díaz and Blake Snell did to remove loose bodies from their respective throwing elbows.

After Stewart faced batters in a simulated game late last month, Roberts indicated his left foot was “not totally responding and kind of back” despite multiple weeks of treatment and that in turn caused a delay with the rehab process.

Given the various factors, it stands to reason Stewart will spend multiple weeks on his current rehab assignment.
