Miguel Rojas ‘Available If Needed’ After Injuring Right Shin

During the Los Angeles Dodgers’ win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, all the focus was naturally on Yoshinobu Yamamoto as he was flirting with a perfect game and no-hitter.

But one other storyline was Miguel Rojas dealing with an injury to his right shin. Rojas first injured it during the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates when a baserunner slid into him at second base.

Rojas then re-aggravated it on Saturday during his at-bat in the fifth inning when he jumped out of the way of a pitch, according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group. Rojas finished his at-bat and grounded out, but Santiago Espinal replaced him in the bottom half of the inning.

Rojas shared that his decision to exit the game was based on Yamamoto’s perfect game and didn’t want the injury to affect the outcome.

But he didn’t want his movement to be compromised on defense with Yamamoto pitching a perfect game and was replaced by Santiago Espinal.

Rojas was not in the lineup for the series finale against the White Sox and did not appear in the game, despite the White Sox using left-handed pitchers for the first 3.1 innings of the game.

Rojas shared he was available to play if the team needed him, and he received treatment on his shin before the game started.

Rojas received treatment on Sunday morning and said he was available if needed in the game.

Rojas is unlikely to be back in the lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday or Tuesday with a right-hander on the mound, but the Dodgers are facing a lefty in the third and final game of the series.

It’s unclear whether the Dodgers will use Rojas only in emergencies over the next two games, but it would be surprising and worrying if he’s not in the lineup on Wednesday.

Dodgers get Tommy Edman back on Tuesday

If Rojas’ condition doesn’t improve or gets worse, the Dodgers are set to get Tommy Edman back on Tuesday for the first time this season since he underwent right ankle surgery during the offseason.

Edman began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 26 and spent the full 20 days permitted for a position player to be on assignment. Sunday was Edman’s 20th day on the rehab assignment, and Monday gives him a chance to travel back to L.A. and get situated again.
