By virtue of the Los Angeles Dodgers winning the pennant en route to repeating as World Series champions last year, manager Dave Roberts is again going to lead the National League team in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.
In addition to Dodgers personnel, Roberts is including Philadelphia Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly and St. Louis Cardinals skipper Oliver Marmol on his NL coaching staff, via Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oli Marmol, a candidate for the NL Manager of the Year award, has accepted Dave Roberts’ invitation to be on the National League coaching staff at the All-Star Game. Marmol and Phillies manager Don Mattingly will be the non-Dodger coaches with Roberts.
With the 96th Midsummer Classic being played at Citizens Bank Park, Mattingly is a logical choice to be part of Roberts’ coaching staff. The former Dodgers skipper has led the resurgent Phillies to a 27-11 record since replacing Rob Thomson on April 28.
Marmol has also been one of the better stories in baseball this season, guiding the Cardinals to a 35-28 record thus far. St. Louis currently holds the top Wild Card spot and is 5.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
American League manager John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays is including Minnesota Twins skipper Derek Shelton on his coaching staff for the 2026 All-Star Game, with another honorary member still to be announced.
MLB All-Star Game history: manager Dave Roberts
Roberts’ first time as manager of the NL All-Star team came in 2018. He repeated the feat in 2019 and also held the honor in 2021 and 2025.
The NL team is 1-3 when managed by Roberts in the annual MLB All-Star Game. He earned his first win last year when the NL defeated the AL in the first-ever Home Run Derby swing-off.
Kyle Schwarber hit three consecutive home runs off Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel to give the NL a decisive 4-3 lead.
“Yeah, there you go. Put a ‘W’ next to Dino’s name in the paper,” Roberts said after the swing-off. “Well, there’s no more papers anymore, but Dino should get the win. Absolutely.”
Schwarber’s power display helped the NL earn only their second win over the AL in the last 12 Midsummer Classics.
