Dodgers Updates: Teoscar Hernández ‘Best-Case Scenario,’ Tyler Glanow’s Recovery Slowed

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with a recent rash of injuries and also seen Tyler Glasnow’s recovery from back spams not go as expected.

While Glasnow’s rehab progression stalled, the Dodgers do appear to have caught somewhat of a break with Teoscar Hernández only suffering a Grade 1 left hamstring strain.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers still expect it to be multiple weeks until either of the aforementioned players is able to return from the injured list.

Dodgers injury updates

Tyler Glasnow

When Glasnow was first put on the 15-day injured list, it was explained as a decision rooted in erring on the side of caution. It was suggested Glasnow could quickly return to pitching if necessary. But he’s continued to deal with back trouble and at one point needed to stop playing catching.

Glasnow resumed a throwing progression but remains limited.

“I think that he hasn’t got over the hump, as far as where we feel like he can really progress, so we’re right now in kind of a holding pattern,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “Still building, but I wouldn’t say we’re moving too far forward, too fast. And certainly with the back, you got to just be very mindful of not trying to push it too much, too.”

Roberts further explained, “I wouldn’t say bothering, but he doesn’t feel the freedom to push it, to really stretch it out, or to get off a mound, and things like that.”

Teoscar Hernández

Hernández dealt with a left groin strain last season and is using as a blueprint on how to handle the recovery from his current injury.

“I’m going to take my time,” Hernández said. “I want to deal with it .It’s early in the season. Miss maybe a couple more weeks, and then be back 100% and just give my best to the team all the way through the end of the season.”

Hernández said he was told to expect being out for roughly one month. There’s a hope to return ahead of that timeline, but not rushing the recovery is going to take precedent. Hernández is pain-free but still experiencing tightness in his left hamstring.

“A little bit of treatment until the inflammation goes away,” he said of the plan ahead. “The next part is to get it stronger and loosen it up.”

Roberts added the team intends to be “very mindful” of Hernández’s progression and he likely will need a rehab assignment prior to getting activated.

“As you get into the summer, if you have a setback, it could be more costly,” Roberts noted. “Where right now, it’s not as costly.”
