Jason Heyward became the latest former player to take on a role with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization by joining the front office as a special assistant.
According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Heyward spoke with his former Chicago Cubs team and Chicago White Sox before returning to the Dodgers.

Heyward, who officially retired this past March, spent the majority of his career with the Cubs. He most notably was part of their 2016 team that ended a 108-year World Series drought.
Heyward went on to join the Dodgers prior to the 2023 season and experienced a career renaissance of sorts, which was made possible by close friend Freddie Freeman vouching for his signing. Heyward and Freeman debuted together with the Atlanta Braves in 2010.
Heyward re-signed with the Dodgers for the 2024 season, but wound up finishing the year with the Houston Astros. He still received a World Series ring upon returning to Dodger Stadium in 2025, which came after a brief stint with the San Diego Padres.
Heyward hit .249/.322/.446 with 33 doubles, 21 home runs and 68 RBI in 187 games during his time with the Dodgers. He joins Clayton Kershaw and Chris Archer as former players to now have roles in the Dodgers front office.

Heyward was a fan favorite during his time with the Dodgers and especially so in the clubhouse, where he took on a leadership role and mentored some of the younger players.
Manager Dave Roberts shed some light on Heyward’s new role and hopes to see the five-time Gold Glove Award winner around the team “a good bit” moving forward.
“I’m excited for Jason to be back in the organization,” Roberts said. “I do know he’s going to do some stuff with the (Minor League) affiliates, which is great. He’s got the clubhouse part of it covered, so part of it is working with the front office guys and getting to see the other side of things and how it operates.
“He’s going to be very helpful. For his growth and the organization, it’s good to have him.”
