After a series-opening loss, the Los Angeles Dodgers tried to get back in the win column against the San Francisco Giants, but once again, the results were the same.

The offense failed to show up, and they dropped the series against their National League West rivals. They now try to salvage the series and come away with one win in the series finale on Thursday.

Giants 3, Dodgers 0: key takeaways

Shohei Ohtani throws gem

Shohei Ohtani was on the mound for the Dodgers, and he turned in another gem. The right-hander pitched six shutout innings, allowing just five hits with no walks while striking out seven.

Ohtani ran into some trouble during his final inning with two runners in scoring position, but recorded a strikeout to end the threat and keep the game scoreless. He jumped off the mound with a loud cheer, showing a ton of emotion in what has been a difficult series for the Dodgers.

Ohtani now owns a 0.38 ERA across 24 innings this season.

Dodgers offense shut down again

The Dodgers tallied just four total hits in the game, one night after picking up three. That’s some progress, but this time they were shut out instead of scoring one run. However, they also struck out only five times in this game, compared to 12 yesterday.

Freddie Freeman had two of their hits, while Max Muncy and Miguel Rojas had the others. In total, the offense left seven runners on base and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

Tyler Mahle pitched seven shutout innings against the Dodgers after entering the game with a 7.23 ERA. Ryan Walker earned the save, issuing one walk and no hits.

The last time the Dodgers were shut out was Aug. 29, 2025.

Jack Dreyer allows go-ahead runs

Jack Dreyer entered the game following Ohtani, and he quickly ran into trouble. Jung Hoo Lee and Heliot Ramos greeted him with a pair of singles, and then with one out, Patrick Bailey slugged a three-run homer on a hanging slider to put the Giants up 3-0.

Shohei Ohtani’s on-base streak ends

Ohtani went 0-for-4 at the plate and saw his on-base streak end at 53 games. Ohtani tied Shawn Green last night for the L.A. Dodgers record, but fell short of breaking the tie and five games away from tying Duke Snider for the franchise and NL record of 58 games.
