Tanner Scott Starts Brimless Hat Trend For Dodgers Bullpen, But Not All Convinced

Hours before the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to five games by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays, Edwin Díaz emerged from the clubhouse wearing a brimless team cap.

It’s not something readily available in stores, but rather a custom design done by Tanner Scott. While it was meant for the Dodgers bullpen, Miguel Rojas joined in on the fun by explaining he was eligible due to pitching the ninth inning of the series opener at Rogers Centre, per Jack Harris of the California Post.

While Díaz, Rojas and Scott displayed their fashion statement with pride, it’s quite the divisive topic for at least one other Dodgers reliever.

Alex Vesia definitively told Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic that he will not be participating alongside his bullpen mates.

Will fellow bullpen mate Alex Vesia be wearing this?

“Absolutely not.” https://t.co/zqqxxW3CDn

Of the aforementioned three relief pitchers, Vesia and Díaz went on to take the mound in the Dodgers’ 4-1 win. Vesia worked out of a bases-loaded jam and Díaz entered in the ninth inning to convert his fourth save of the season.

The last time the Dodgers bullpen coordinated to wear something as a group was the masks donned by the “bullpen dawgs” during the 2024 postseason. That movement had immediate widespread support within the group.

It remains to be seen if Scott’s new trend in 2026 will catch on and perhaps even win over Vesia or any other dissenters.

Miguel Rojas not with Dodgers

Although Rojas went through fielding drills and batting practice on Tuesday, he was late a scratch from the lineup due to what the team called a family matter.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game that Rojas was still in Toronto but wasn’t certain if that was going to remain the case on Wednesday. Even if the veteran infielder does not leave the team before the end of their road trip, the Dodgers are going to play a man short on Wednesday.

They then will return to Los Angeles before starting a homestand on Friday. Roberts indicated the Dodgers at that point will decided whether or not to make a roster move.
