Recap: Tyler Glasnow, Freddie Freeman & Andy Pages Lead Dodgers To Win Vs. Nationals

After a dominant win yesterday, the Los Angeles Dodgers looked to clinch a series win against the Washington Nationals, and they did just that.

Nearly everything went right for the Dodgers in their win, and they now have a chance to sweep in the series finale on Sunday. However, things weren’t all good as Mookie Betts left the game with an injury.

Dodgers 10, Nationals 5: key takeaways

Andy Pages & offense stays hot

One day after scoring nine runs with five home runs, the Dodgers had another strong offensive showing, putting up nine runs but not relying on the long ball as much.

Freddie Freeman started the day with a two-run double in the first inning, and he had another one in the second inning, accounting for four RBI in the first two innings. Miguel Rojas also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Alex Call extended the lead with an RBI single in the third, and Andy Pages stayed hot by slugging a three-run homer in the fifth that broke the score open. Pages is hitting .500 with a 1.349 on-base plus slugging to begin the season.

Kyle Tucker, who was 2-for-3 on the day, also drove in a run with a single in the top of the seventh.

Tyler Glasnow dominant

Tyler Glasnow was excellent, giving the Dodgers six innings of two-run ball. He also struck out nine batters while walking two and allowing four hits.

The first run he allowed was on an excellent piece of hitting by Luis García Jr., who tripled down the line on a quality pitch up and out of the zone. He allowed another on a double down the third base line that Max Muncy was unable to make the diving play on.

Despite allowing two runs, Glasnow was in control all game and looked very much like the ace the Dodgers believe he can be.

The bullpen didn’t hold up the same way, however. Ben Casparius allowed two runs and Edgardo Henriquez allowed another.

Mookie Betts injured

Betts was originally in the lineup, but exited the game after the top of the first inning. He was replaced by Miguel Rojas at shortstop.

Betts drew a walk and scored from first base on Freeman’s double in the top half of the inning. There wasn’t any overt sign of injury immediatley, but the Dodgers announced Betts was removed due to right low back pain.

It’s not yet clear if Betts’ back pain will require a stint on the injured list.
