Dodgers Claim Grant Holman, Gavin Stone Transferred To 60-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued working on the fringes of their 40-man roster Wednesday afternoon by claiming Grant Holman off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gavin Stone was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Holman on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, which remains full.

Previously on Wednesday, the Dodgers acquired Jake Eder from the Washington Nationals in exchange for cash considerations. Jake Cousins going on the 60-day IL was the corresponding move to the team trading for Eder.

Holman (two) and Eder (one) both have Minor League options remaining, which gives the Dodgers some flexibility if they need to cycle through fresh arms in their bullpen that’s proven to be a strength so far in 2026.

Grant Holman’s career before Dodgers

Holman joins the Dodgers organization exactly one week after getting designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks. Arizona DFA’d Holman just over one month after claiming him off waivers from the Athletics.

The right-hander made his MLB debut with Oakland in 2024 and appeared in a career-high 22 games for the team last season as well. Over parts of two seasons with the A’s, Holman is a combined 5-3 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 40 games (two starts).

Both of Holman’s starts came last season as he effectively filled an opener role in each instance. Holman’s first career start was 1.1 innings and he pitched just the opening frame his next time.

The 25-year-old was drafted by the Athletics in the sixth round in 2021. Holman was a Pacific Coast League All-Star for the Las Vegas Aviators in 2024, when he posted a 0.92 ERA and collected 30 strikeouts over 29.1 innings.

Gavin Stone’s outlook

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said earlier this week that Stone began a throwing progression but was effectively in need of a full buildup that was akin to Spring Training. Thus, it doesn’t come as any surprise that the right-hander is now on the 60-day IL.

Stone is looking to return from having right shoulder surgery and had impressed in camp but experienced some discomfort after making just one Cactus League start. The Dodgers nevertheless were relieved that an MRI revealed only inflammation and not any structural damage in Stone’s throwing shoulder.

The injury removed Stone from consideration to make the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster. The team instead started the season with a five-man rotation but now are poised to move Justin Wrobleski into that group from the bullpen.

Stone last pitched 140.1 innings during the 2024 season, finishing with a 3.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 116 strikeouts in what became a breakout season.
