Dodgers Sign Max Muncy To One-Year Contract Extension

The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to terms with Max Muncy on a one-year contract extension for $10 million guaranteed, which includes a $7 million salary for the 2027 season and a $10 million club option for 2028.

Muncy became the longest-tenured Dodgers player this offseason after Clayton Kershaw retired. He has been with the team since 2018, and was signed through the 2026 season.

Muncy has appeared in 924 games with the Dodgers, hitting .232/.358/.485 with 209 home runs, 587 RBI, 566 runs scored and a 129 wRC+ while accumulating 23.3 WAR.

The two-time All-Star ranks seventh all-time in Dodger history in homers and is two behind Steve Garvey for sixth all-time in franchise history. In his eight seasons in Dodger Blue, he has collected 713 hits, 566 runs and an .828 OPS.

The 35-year-old is coming off a strong season where he hit .243/.376/.470 with 19 home runs, 67 RBI, 48 runs scored and a 137 wRC+ over 100 games.

Muncy has been limited due to injuries the past few seasons and has not exceeded 136 games in a year since 2021, but he has continued to contribute while on the field and in the postseason.

The three-time World Series champion has hit .216/.381/.436 (.817 OPS) in the postseason over 79 games. He has also added 16 home runs, 37 RBI and 46 runs scored in October.

In 2025, Muncy hit a key home run in Game 7 of the World Series to pull the Dodgers within one run, setting up their dramatic comeback win. He finished the postseason with three homers.

His 16 round trippers in the postseason are a franchise record as well as his 46 runs scored and he is among the franchise leaders in various other categories, including RBI (3rd, 37), doubles (6th, 9), plate appearances (2nd, 328) and extra-base hits (T-3rd, 25).

Dodgers still talking with free agents

Barring a surprise trade or signing, the Dodgers roster appears to be mostly set ahead of the start of Spring Training at Camelback Ranch this week.

However, the team could still look to make a few smaller moves to improve their depth, and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman recently noted they are in talks with some free agents.

Although they haven’t been linked to anyone in particular as of late, Kiké Hernández is expected to return once Spring Training begins.
