When the Los Angeles Dodgers traded Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds last offseason, they got back prospect Mike Sirota and a Competitive Balance Pick A in the 2025 MLB Draft.
The Dodgers originally selected Sirota in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, but he did not sign with the team. Sirota instead went to college and was drafted by the Reds in the third round three years later.
The Dodgers clearly have high hopes for Sirota after making two attempts to acquire him, and after being successful on their second try, they are so far looking to be correct.
Sirota made an immediate impact in his first professional season with the Dodgers, hitting .333/.452/.616 with 16 doubles, 13 home runs, and 54 RBI in 59 games between Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes.
Sirota displayed plus-bat speed, quality bat-to-ball skills, a patient approach at the plate and plus speed. He is projected to stay in center field for the long-term with an above-average arm and the ability to make reads off the bat well.

A likely first-rounder before slumping during his junior season at Northeastern in 2024, Sirota dropped to the Reds in the third round, then went to the Dodgers in the Gavin Lux trade last January before even making his pro debut. The grand-nephew of Hall of Famer Whitey Ford batted .333/.452/.616 with 13 homers in 59 games between two Class A stops and looked like a potential 20/20 center fielder before injuring his right knee on a slide in July.
As noted by the writers, Sirota was projected to be a first-round pick before struggling during his junior season at Northeastern and ultimately falling in the 2024 MLB Draft.
The Dodgers evidently weren’t concerned by his season-long slump and still coveted him even after he was drafted by the Reds.
Sirota rewarded the organization’s faith in him with a strong 2025 season and made a big jump on many prospect boards. MLB Pipeline has him ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 5 prospect entering the 2026 season and No. 64 in all of baseball.
