Dodgers Mourn The Death Of Longtime Fan Rob Reiner

Rob Reiner, a film director, producer, screenwriter, actor, activist and longtime Los Angeles Dodgers fan, died on Dec. 14, 2025 at the age of 78.

Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found fatally stabbed at their home over the weekend. Nick Reiner, their son, was booked by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of killing his parents.

After the news of his passing, the Dodgers were among the many to express their condolences.

“The Dodgers express our deep sorrow and share our condolences over the passing of longtime fan Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele,” they shared in a post on X, more commonly known as Twitter.

Reiner was born in New York City in 1947, but lived in Southern California for most of his life. He attended Beverley Hills High School and went on to study film at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Reiner became famous as an actor portraying Michael “Mike” Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979), a role that earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards.

His other acting credits include “Throw Momma from the Train” (1987), “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), “Bullets Over Broadway” (1994), “The First Wives Club” (1996), “Primary Colors” (1998), “EDtv” (1999), and “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013).

Reiner directed his first film with “This Is Spinal Tap” in 1984 and earned acclaim by directing “The Sure Thing” the following year.

He also directed other highly acclaimed movies, including “Stand by Me” (1986), “The Princess Bride” (1987), “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989), “Misery” (1990), and “A Few Good Men” (1992), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, and “The American President” (1995).

Rob Reiner accolades during career

Reiner received numerous accolades throughout his career, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Hugo Award, nominations for an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and nine Golden Globe Awards.

He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999 and received the Chaplin Award at the Film at Lincoln Center in 2014. Three of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry.
