The 2025 Rule 5 Draft was held Wednesday during the annual MLB Winter Meetings, with a total of 68 players selected across the Major League and Minor League phases.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had three of their own prospects selected, but did not make any picks of their own. All three of the players were taken in the Minor League phase of the annual Rule 5 Draft.
Teams had until 3 p.m. PT on Nov. 18 to add players to their 40-man rosters to prevent them from being eligible in this year’s Rule 5 Draft. Players signed at 18 years old or younger become Rule 5 eligible after five seasons, while those signed at age 19 or older are eligible within four seasons.
A team needed to have room on their 40-man roster in order to make a pick during the Rule 5 Draft. Clubs pay $100,000 to select a player in the Major League phase, and must remain on the active roster for the full ensuing season or be offered back to his former team for $50,000.
It costs $24,000 to take a player in the Minor League phase, with no restrictions on where they can be placed.
The Dodgers protected Jack Dreyer ahead of last year’s Rule 5 Draft, which turned out to be an excellent decision. Dreyer finished his rookie season with a 2.95 ERA in 76.1 innings pitched in 2025.
This year, it was Ronan Kopp and Ryan Ward who were added to the 40-man roster.
