Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy was voted the National League Manager of the Year for the second consecutive season. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts not only didn’t qualify as a finalist for the award, but he didn’t garner any votes.
Murphy received 27 of 30 first-place votes and ran away with the award to the tune of 141 overall points. Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona finished a distant second place with two votes for first place and 49 total points.
Rob Thomson of the Philadelphia Phillies garnered one first-place vote and tallied 32 points in 2025 Manager of the Year balloting in the NL.
Murphy became the first Brewers manager to win the award last year. By repeating in 2025, he’s just the second NL manager and fourth overall to be honored in consecutive seasons. Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox won in 2004 and 2005, and in the American League, Tampa Bay Rays’ Kevin Cash repeated from 2020-2021, and Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt joined Murphy in back-to-back honors for the last two seasons.
That amounted to MLB history as the first time Manager of the Year Awards in both leagues were won by the same skipper in consecutive seasons.
Dave Roberts’ history in Manager of the Year voting
Roberts was voted NL Manager of the Year in 2016, his first season at the helm. Whether as a finalist or through down-ballot voting, he earned at least one point in eight seasons after that.
However, the 2025 season snapped his streak as it represented the first time Roberts did not receive at least one vote for NL Manager of the Year.
Roberts finished in second place for Manager of the Year in both 2017 and 2022. Roberts otherwise placed sixth in 2018, fourth in 2019; fifth in 2020, 2021 and 2023; and seventh in 2024.
Ironically, Roberts’ Dodgers eliminated the teams of NL Manager of the Year finalists during the postseason this year.
