The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Dalton Rushing from the 10-day injured list and optioned Chuckie Robinson back to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Robinson is returned to the Minors after another brief stint with the Dodgers. He was called up Sept. 6 as the corresponding move to Rushing going on the injured list with a right shin contusion, but didn’t appear in a game before getting optioned two days later.
Robinson then returned on Sept. 13 because the Dodgers were forced to put Will Smith on the 10-day IL due to a lack of improvement with the bone bruise in his right hand. Although Robinson again was only with the Dodgers for a short stretch, it included making his team debut.
He started at catcher on Monday night and went 0-for-1 with a run scored and sacrifice bunt in the Dodgers’ 6-5 loss to the Phillies.
Robinson has previous MLB experience with the Cincinnati Reds in 2022 and Chicago White Sox last season. He joined the Dodgers via waiver claim at the end of May and remained part of the organization after getting designated for assignment and going unclaimed.
During his time with the Comets thus far, Robinson has hit .254/.339/.355 with five doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI over 48 games.
Dalton Rushing back with Dodgers
Rushing had been on the 10-day IL since Sept. 6 after suffering a right shin contusion as a result of fouling a ball off his leg. Rushing began a rehab assignment with Comets last week and played in four games.
In those contests, Rushing went 4-for-11 with five walks and two RBI. He started two games behind the plate and twice as their designated hitter.
While the injury forced Rushing to miss nine games with the Dodgers, it certainly could have been more of a long-term issue. The 24-year-old didn’t know what to expect when going in for testing and feared that he could have sustained a fracture.
Fortunately for Rushing and the Dodgers, an X-ray and CT scan came back negative.
“I’m feeling much better,” Rushing told DodgerBlue.com after participating in batting practice at Dodger Stadium on Monday.
