Tyler Glasnow was originally set to start for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they began their series against the Baltimore Orioles, but instead it was Shohei Ohtani’s name penciled into the starting pitcher spot on the lineup card.
Ohtani was previously supposed to start on Wednesday, but he was scratched due to an illness. The two-way superstar was then lined up to face the Orioles, but the Dodgers again pushed him back to Monday’s series opener against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
But with Glasnow out, that changed their plans again. Glasnow has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career, and he’s now dealing with another.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Glasnow was scratched due to back tightness, but they hope he’ll be back on the mound within a few days, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:
Dave Roberts said Tyler Glasnow reported back tightness. That’s why he was scratched. Plan is to push him back “a few days” and have him start “early next week.”

Glasnow also dealt with back tightness last season, which cost him nearly three weeks on the injured list before he was able to return. He also missed time with elbow tendinitis that ultimately ended his season.
Earlier this year, he spent time on the 60-day IL with right shoulder inflammation.
Glasnow is coming off a strong start where he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He ended up losing his shutout in the seventh, but still finished his outing with seven innings pitched, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Overall this season, the right-hander has thrown 68.2 innings with a 3.41 ERA and 1.11 WHIP while striking out 81 hitters.
Dodgers rotation against Orioles
With Ohtani moved up from the series against the Rockies, the remainder of the Dodgers’ rotation for this road trip should be unaffected.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is slated to start on Saturday, while Clayton Kershaw takes the ball in the series finale. The Dodgers will need a new pitcher for Monday’s game, which will presumably go to Emmet Sheehan, who last started on Wednesday in place of Ohtani.
