The Los Angeles Dodgers are inching closer to full health at an opportune time as they remained locked in a tight National League West race with the San Diego Padres.
Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates and Kiké Hernández have each been activated off the injured list over the past handful of days. Hyeseong Kim might return as soon as this weekend, with Max Muncy and Tommy Edman potentially not far behind.
Muncy went through drills at third base, ran the bases and participated in batting practice on Tuesday in what represented his fullest day of work since suffering a Grade 1 right oblique strain.
There’s the chance for Muncy participating in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium later this week, and regardless of whether or not that’s the case, he will complete a rehab assignment.
“Not sure how many games,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “There’s a chance we could see him at the back half of the road trip, but that’s all contingent on how things are going. He’s in a good spot. Swinging the bat, running, the grounders, all that stuff.”

Muncy was scratched from the Dodgers’ lineup on Aug. 13 due to what the team deemed right side soreness. An MRI the following day revealed Muncy’s mild oblique strain.
The injury is similar to the trouble that caused Muncy to miss three months last season.
“I think it was on the right side, but it was more of a bigger area, not just really focused in one little spot. So that kind of led to the the MRI, and just to get a scan of it,” Roberts noted when previously comparing Muncy’s oblique strains.
“But from what I hear, it’s not as bad as it was last year. I think a similar feeling, but a little bit less. A little bit more on the mild side.”
When will Max Muncy return?
Given Roberts’ comments the earliest Muncy would be back in the Dodgers lineup is Friday, Sept. 5, when their road trip continues with the start of a weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles.
However, it might be more likely the Dodgers at that point wait until their next homestand — albeit a brief one — begins on Sept. 8.
