Dodgers Updates: Blake Snell, Max Muncy & Tommy Edman

As the Los Angeles Dodgers near the final month of the regular season, their overall team health continues to trend upward. That’s certainly needed given they are firmly locked into a battle with the San Diego Padres for the National League West title.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation is as healthy as it’s been all season with Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell returning from the injured list. However, the Dodgers are missing a handful of meaningful contributors on offense, with Max Muncy, Tommy Edman and Hyeseong Kim each still on the injured list.

Kim is expected to be activated shortly after the Dodgers’ current series against the Cincinnati Reds. His rehab assignment so far has included one start in left field, but that doesn’t appear to be the Dodgers’ preferred position for Kim once he is activated.

As for Muncy and Edman, the Dodgers are projecting a return sometime in early September.

Blake Snell

Snell landing on MLB’s paternity list allowed him to take up to a three-day leave to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. A player must miss at least one day when put on paternity leave.

He started for the Dodgers in the series opener against the Padres on Friday prior to the roster move on Saturday. Kirby Yates was activated from the 15-day IL as the corresponding move.

Thankfully, all is well for the Snell family and he is expected to return for his next scheduled start.

“He is going to make his next start on Friday,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “They had the baby, and everyone is healthy. “So, yeah, that was baby number two. So we’re in a good spot right now.”

Max Muncy

Muncy began taking swings off the tee on Friday, which had him trending in the right direction. He has since progressed to cage work and will make another leap to hitting on the field Tuesday.

“I talked to Munce, he is in the cage today, feels really good. He’s going to hit on the field tomorrow,” Roberts said.

“Ramp up this week, and then, yeah, shortly as in this next road trip (for a return), yes. But this homestand, no.”

Tommy Edman

It has been an injury-plagued season for Edman in 2025, with right ankle trouble a consistent through line. He has been limited to 86 games in his first full year with the Dodgers after being acquired via trade last season.

Edman has done his best to play through the pain, but now has taken the time to fully recover before activated him from the IL.

Once the timing is right, the hope is that Edman will be able to play some center field.

The 30-year-old is able to complete his rehab work without issue, but his mobility still needs time to improve.

“Tommy is running, he’s going to hit in a group today. And so the hitting part of it has been fine, getting better, but it’s more of the mobility piece for Tommy,” Roberts explained. “So he’s a little bit behind, but it’s some time early September for him too. So he’s trending.”
