Dodger Injury Updates: Hyeseong Kim & Kiké Hernández Starting Rehab Assignments

Everything appears to be trending up for the Los Angeles Dodgers after a sweep of the San Diego Padres and multiple players set to begin rehab assignments this week.

On the pitching side, Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates are joining Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, and Michael Kopech already started his.

Among position players, Kiké Hernández, Hyeseong Kim and Tommy Edman have all been making progress toward a return.

Hernández was first placed on the injured list in the middle of July with left elbow inflammation. The initial projection was he would return shortly after the All-Star break, but things didn’t progress well.

Hernández then underwent nonsurgical procedures, which have since sped up his progress, and that allowed him to begin hitting.

Hernández is now poised to take the final step in his rehab process, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

“He’s going to go out on rehab this week, so that’s a big step for him,” Roberts said. “He’s anxious to get going.”

Kim was placed on the injured list with left shoulder bursitis at the end of July after initially attempting to play through the pain.

He received a cortisone injection and was shut down in the days after, but he has since resumed fielding drills and recently began hitting again.

Kim is also set to go out on a rehab assignment this week.

Tommy Edman furthest from return to Dodgers

Edman is expected to remain out until September as the Dodgers remain cautious with him after another sprained right ankle.

Edman began baseball activities last week.

He spent time on the IL earlier this season due to right ankle inflammation, which cost Edman roughly two weeks. He later tweaked his ankle in June, but avoided a stint on the IL.
