The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the season series against the San Diego Padres with a 6-0 win on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
The victory additionally gave the Dodgers possession of first place in the National League West once again.
The Dodgers have now won five consecutive series against the Padres dating back to last season and including the 2024 NL Division Series.
“It feels good,” manager Dave Roberts said. “I just think for me, obviously, wins are great. We’re going to sleep well tonight, be ready to win three tomorrow, but I’m just happy that we’re playing better baseball.
“It just seems like we’re playing clean baseball. We’re minimizing the walks, taking walks, not making outs on the bases, and converting outs when we need to. And when you have the talent that we do, you just got to play good baseball.
“And if you do that, we’re going to win more than we lose. So I think for me, that’s the main thing. We had a chance to win three against the Blue Jays a week ago, so we’ve got that same opportunity.
“We know (Yu) Darvish, we know what he’s going to do, and we got our guy going tomorrow. So this is a good time to go for the jugular before we go to Denver.”
The Dodgers are looking to sweep the Padres on Sunday before the teams meet again this weekend in a three-game series at Petco Park. Those will represent the final matchups between L.A. and San Diego during the 2025 regular season.
With the regular season winding down, Will Smith understands the importance of each Dodgers win and finishing atop the division standings.
“Yeah, I mean, every game from here on out is going to matter,” Smith said. “We want as big of a lead as we can. We want to win the division, that’s our first goal.”
Dodgers clinch NL West tiebreaker
With a 7-2 record against the Padres so far this year, the Dodgers have already clinched the NL West tiebreaker should both teams finish with the same record.
