Dave Roberts: Team Meeting Not A Solution For Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have boasted the most prolific run-scoring offense in baseball for much of the 2025 season.

They still technically rank as one of MLB’s top scoring lineups this season, with 593 runs scored. But the team has struggled to push runs across in their last 30 games, ranking in the bottom half of the league.

Every team is going to have lulls throughout the season, but the Dodgers have consistently struggled to score runs of late outside of an occasional offensive explosion.

“It’s not from lack of effort, preparation,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Hitting is hard.

“But I do think that you can focus a little bit more on some things to mind the little things, have better team at-bats, continue to play good defense, and then that will kind of manifest into playing better baseball and wins.

“But I just don’t think one team meeting or anything like that is going to now throw out 15 hits in a game.”

Like Roberts mentioned there are specific aspects of the team’s approach at the plate that they can work on improving. Reducing their recent strikeout problem, which coincided with a drop in offensive production that began last month, is one adjustment that can be made.

During the month of July, the Dodgers regressed from being above-average at putting the ball in play to one of the most strikeout-prone teams in the league.

Another contributing factor to the prolonged offensive rut has been the performance of their premier players. Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernández, Andy Pages, Tommy Edman and Freddie Freeman all struggled to various degrees during July.

Freeman began to turn things around after the All-Star break and is back to producing to at an elite level, especially in the his last 15 games.

The Dodgers will need others to follow suit to have a more well-rounded offensive attack to close out the season, and to give themselves the best possible chance to succeed in the postseason. It doesn’t have to be to the same extent as Freeman necessarily, but some level of improvement will go a long way.

Mookie Betts appreciates support from Dodgers fans

Betts’ struggles at the plate have been the most pronounced of any Dodgers player this season.

Fans and teammates have looked to do their part of late, and he was very thankful for the encouragement received from the Dodger Stadium crowd during the series against the St. Louis Cardinals this week.
