Part of the Los Angeles Dodgers addressing their bullpen was trading James Outman to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Brock Stewart.
Stewart was among several players the Twins parted with as they went into sell mode at the deadline, while Outman was just one of two the Dodgers traded from their Major League roster.
Outman finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2023 but wasn’t able to sustain or replicate that success, and largely became organizational depth.
Outman played in just 53 games with the Dodgers last year and spent the bulk of this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City after making the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Tokyo Series.
During his time with Comets this season, Outman hit .289/.378/.592 with 20 doubles, 20 home runs and 74 RBI. He played in 39 games for the Dodgers, and his latest stint on the roster began during the first week of July as the corresponding move to Kiké Hernández going on the injured list.
Outman has hit .103 with two homers and four RBI this season.
Outman figures to receive more opportunities with the Twins and serve as a replacement of sorts to Harrison Bader, who was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. Outman gives Minnesota a versatile, defense-first outfielder who is cost controlled.
James Outman thanks Dodgers, fans & teammates
Hours after the trade was finalized, Outman shared a farewell message on his Instagram account.
“To say the last 7 years were fun would be a huge understatement. The people I’ve met along the way have helped me grow into the player — and man — that my 12-year-old self would be proud of,” Outman’s caption began.
“It was a dream come true to debut with the team that drafted me, and I’ll forever be grateful to the @dodgers for the opportunity they gave me. I was truly proud to wear Dodger Blue every night.
“To the fans, my teammates, and coaches — thank you. I’ll miss you all deeply. While it’s hard to say goodbye, I’m incredibly thankful for every moment we shared.
“Now, I’m beyond excited to start this next chapter with the @twins . I promise to give my best every single day and represent Minneapolis with everything I’ve got!
“God Bless”
