Dodgers Updates: Max Muncy, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, Tony Gonsolin & Blake Treinen

While the Los Angeles Dodgers figure to address their bullpen at the MLB trade deadline on July 31, the team is also anticipating the returns of Blake Treinen, Max Muncy, Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki.

The quartet remains on the Dodgers’ injured list, though Treinen seemingly is on the verge of being activated. Snell figures to be close behind and Muncy’s recovery from a bone bruise in his left knee has gone better than expected.

Sasaki is the furthest away among the group, but he too has made recent strides and is on a good path to potentially return in late August.

Dodgers updates

Blake Treinen

Treinen made a sixth appearance on his rehab assignment on Wednesday night. Five of those have now come with Triple-A Oklahoma City, and the other was in the Arizona Complex League during the All-Star break.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the tentative plan was for Treinen to also pitch on Thursday night to complete the back-to-back appearances as the final barometer of sorts before returning.

Blake Snell

Snell is scheduled to pitch for the Comets on Saturday in what’s going to mark his fourth rehab start. Snell has pitched once for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and ACL Dodgers, and as of this weekend will have made two starts with the Comets.

The plan is for Snell to reach five innings and 75 pitches, which could lead to joining the Dodgers’ rotation next week.

Roki Sasaki

Sasaki threw 39 pitches in a bullpen session on Wednesday and is scheduled for another before making his way to Camelback Ranch to face batters.

“It’s exciting,” Roberts said of Sasaki making progress toward a return in 2025. “He’s obviously very talented. I think we haven’t come close to seeing what’s in there, even for this season.

“Things obviously have shown that things happen, and we’ve got to kind of read and react, but to get more guys back on line to backfill or be at the forefront, anyway you want to see it, is really exciting.”

Max Muncy

Muncy steadily increased his level of activities over the past several days, which included fielding grounders at third base and Tuesday saw him advance to taking batting practice on the field for the first time since his knee injury. Next is facing pitchers at Camelback Ranch.

“Max is going to go to Arizona and take live at-bats for a few days,” Roberts said. “As we get through the weekend we’ll see where he’s at to potentially go on rehab the next week.”

Tony Gonsolin

While the Dodgers have multiple pitchers making progress, Tony Gonsolin is not among them. He was put on the 15-day injured list June 7 with right elbow discomfort.

Gonsolin then was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 19, and still has not started a throwing program.

“We’re going to have to make a decision with Tony soon. I’m not sure what that is, but we’re going to have to make a decision at some point,” Roberts said.
