Dodgers Injuries: Tanner Scott To Undergo MRI On Left Forearm

The Los Angeles Dodgers ended their three-game losing streak with a win against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night, but it wasn’t all good news for them as Tanner Scott exited the game with a forearm injury.

Scott took over in the eighth inning after Dustin May allowed back-to-back hits with two outs. He retired the first batter faced and remained in the game in effort to complete a four-out save.

But there were struggles at that point, as Scott walked Byron Buxton and hit Brooks Lee with a pitch. While facing Ryan Jeffers with one out, Scott threw an 85.9 mph pitch in the dirt, nowhere near the zone and walked off the mound while flexing his left arm.

He was checked on by manager Dave Roberts and head trainer Thomas Albert. Scott ended up exiting the game and went back for testing on his arm, which Roberts called a left forearm injury.

The initial testing results on Scott’s arm were encouraging, but they don’t reveal the full picture of what could be going on with his forearm.

“There was an X-ray, there was manual testing, and then both those were positive,” Roberts said. “So that’s a good thing.”

But a stint on the injured list is likely, at minimum, and the greater concern is if there’s anything the initial tests didn’t discover and how long he could potentially be out due to that.

“Well, emotionally, not well, obviously,” Roberts said of Scott’s condition. “He just felt something in his forearm, as far as like a sting sensation. So we’re going to get an MRI tomorrow, and we’ll know more after that. So obviously, anytime a pitcher has got to come out of the game, then it’s concerning.

“And so I think for us, we’re just going to kind of sit back and wait for the results to further assess.”

Scot’s injury is also something that happened on one pitch, rather than being an issue that was lingering in his appearance. Roberts believes it was likely that final pitch Scott threw in the game.

“I’m not sure which pitch it was, but he said he felt like a sting,” Roberts said. “I think it was probably the pitch before I went out there.”

How does Tanner Scott injury affect Dodgers trade deadline plans?

With the MLB trade deadline quickly approaching on July 31, adding at least one high-leverage relief pitcher becomes an even greater need for the Dodgers, and it was already the position they were most likely to address.

Scott has thrown 45.2 innings for the Dodgers this season, posting a 4.14 ERA with 50 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. He’s also savedc 19 games in 26 chances as the Dodgers’ primary closer.
