Dave Roberts: Getting Healthy ‘Most Important’ For Dodgers Amid Struggles

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 2-8 in their last 10 games, with the stretch at one point including a season-high seven game losing streak that was their longest since 2017. The Dodgers have been outscored 57-24 over the 10-game span and have particularly struggled against the Milwaukee Brewers.

While pitching staff has let the flood gates open a couple of times, they have performed pretty well as of late. Dodgers’ pitching has kept opponents to three runs or fewer in five of their past six games.

The return of Tyler Glasnow has been especially beneficial, with the right-hander allowing just one earned run over 11 innings in his two starts since being activated off the 60-day injured list.

The Dodgers once had the league’s highest scoring offense this season, but they have been kept silent during this rut. They have been held to two runs or fewer seven times in the past 10 games.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the need for improvement, but there isn’t a singular aspect of the team that he is overly worried about.

In his mind the organization’s top priority at the moment is continuing to get healthy because of the impact that comes with that, as evident by Glasnow’s performances.

“I never like to talk about injuries, but I would say getting our guys back to full strength is something that’s most important,” Roberts said.

“So as far as concerning, no. I think the different facets of the game, we can certainly get better, but there’s nothing that’s overly concerning.”

Fortunately for the Dodgers, the two games they did manage to put in the win column were against the San Francisco Giants, which helped to persevere their lead in the National League West.

Some additional good news is that Blake Snell and Blake Treinen took another step forward in their rehab assignments over the All-Star break.

Snell started for the ACL Dodgers and gave up one run over three innings. He finished with seven strikeouts and allowed three hits in total.

Treinen followed Snell and completed one inning of work, allowing a run and striking out one batter.

Tuesday’s start was the second of Snell’s rehab assignment, while it was the third appearance for Treinen who then went on to pitch in a game for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Dave Roberts ‘not concerned’ about Freddie Freeman

One way the Dodgers can get back on track is with Freddie Freeman finding a rhythm at the plate.

Freeman has occasionally shown signs of breaking out of his nearly two-month slump, but it’s still a work in progress. Similar to with the team as a whole, Roberts’ confidence in his All-Star first baseman has not wavered.
