The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Nick Nastrini off waivers from the Miami Marlins and designated Noah Davis for assignment on Friday.
The Dodgers acquired Davis from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations. The trade was completed the day of the Dodger Stadium opener.
Davis had signed a Minor League contract with the Red Sox during the offseason. At the time of the trade he’d already pitched in the Majors over parts of the last three seasons.
He appeared a career-high nine games for the Colorado Rockies in 2024. In 2023, the right-hander logged a career-high 30 innings for the Rockies, when he pitched in eight games (six starts).
Over parts of the three seasons from 2022-2024, Davis went 0-4 with a 7.71 ERA, 5.65 FIP and 1.95 WHIP in 18 games (six starts).
Davis’ MLB debut coincidentally came against the Dodgers, when he allowed two runs on three hits, including a home run. He also faced the Dodgers in 2023, giving up four runs over 4.1 innings pitched during a start at Coors Field.
Davis was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City upon being traded to the Dodgers and wound up serving as organizational pitching depth.
He went 0-1 with a 19.50 ERA and 2.50 WHIP in five appearances spread across four separate stints with L.A. Davis was 2-0 with one save and a 4.34 ERA in 20 games (two starts) for Oklahoma City.
Davis’ most recent appearance with the Dodgers saw him surrender 10 runs in the sixth inning of a lopsided loss to the Houston Astros last weekend.
That marked the most runs the Dodgers allowed in a single inning since giving up 11 to the St. Louis Cardinals on April 23, 1999, when Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams off Chan Ho Park.
Dodgers reunite with Nick Nastrini
The Dodgers drafted Nastrini out of UCLA in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He was signed for $500,000, which was above the slot value for the 131st pick ($430,800).
But Nastrini’s time in the organization came to an end when he was included in the trade to acquire Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn from the Chicago White Sox at the deadline in 2023. The Dodgers also parted with Trayce Thompson and Jordan Leasure in the deal.
Nastrini went on to make his MLB debut with the White Sox in 2024, but struggled to the tune of an 0-7 record, 7.07 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in nine games (eight starts).
The Marlins claimed Nastrini off waivers on July 1, but his tenure with the organization was brief as he was designated for assignment just over one week later as a corresponding move to Miami claiming Tyler Zuber off waivers from the New York Mets.
