Teoscar Hernández Likely Returning To Dodgers Lineup For Giants Series

Teoscar Hernández joined the group of injured Los Angeles Dodgers players after fouling a pitch off his left foot during the game against the Houston Astros last Saturday.

Hernández had some scans taken, which ruled out any broken bones or fractures. As a result, the Dodgers did not place the 32-year-old on the 10-day injured list.

However, Hernández ended up being out of the lineup the next three games before making a pinch-hit appearance in the Dodgers’ 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

Manager Dave Roberts said the two-time All-Star is now expected to be back in the Dodgers lineup when the team begins an important three-game series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I fully expect him to be in there on Friday after the off day,” Roberts said.

Hernández was previously sidelined this season because of a left groin/adductor strain, but had a quicker recovery than initially expected.

Although Hernández didn’t miss as much time as was first feared, he’s yet to find a rhythm at the plate since returning. Since June 1, Hernández is hitting just .193/.246/.330 with three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI in 30 games.

The three-time Silver Slugger Award winner’s overall stats are down from last season as well. He’s batting just .257 with 31 extra-base hits and a .761 on-base plus slugging in 74 games this year.

Even with a decline in production, Hernández’s presence will be a welcome boost considering the Dodgers have scored just 10 runs amid their current six-game losing streak. It’s the first time they’ve lost six games in a row since April 8-13, 2019.

Teoscar Hernández skipping Home Run Derby

Earlier this year, Hernández expressed a willingness to defend his Home Run Derby title if he was selected to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta.

But while he was still in the running via fan voting, Hernández declined the opportunity to repeat so he can focus on remaining healthy for the rest of the season.

Hernández wound up falling short in voting and wasn’t selected by players to the National League team for the All-Star Game, so he will have a chance to fully rest during the week.
