Recap: Tanner Scott Blows Save, Dodgers Swept By Brewers In Walk-Off

Tyler Glasnow was impressive in his return from the 60-day injured list but Tanner Scott couldn’t complete a four-out save in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 3-2 walk-off loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, who completed a series sweep in 10 innings.

Glasnow allowed just two hits and an unearned run over five innings. He finished with five strikeouts and walked three batters.

The start was Glasnow’s first since April 27, when he left after completing just one inning. He landed on the 15-day IL the following afternoon due to right shoulder inflammation.

Glasnow ran into trouble in the second inning as the Brewers had their first two batters reach and loaded the bases with one out. Glasnow worked his way out of the jam by retiring the Nos. 8 and 9 hitters in the Brewers lineup to keep the game knotted in a scoreless tie.

That effort was being matched, if not bested, by Jose Quintana through nearly half of the game.

Quintana entered with a 5.96 ERA in five starts at American Family Field this season. However, the left-hander has historically pitched well against the Dodgers throughout his career, and that trend won out on Wednesday.

Quintana didn’t allow a hit until Esteury Ruiz’s two-out single in the fifth inning. That came as part of a hit-and-run, which likely resulted in Ruiz coming up with a single as his chopper was hit to the area that was vacated by Brice Turang going to cover second base.

The Dodgers caught more breaks when James Outman walked on a check-swing that easily could have been called the other way, and Shohei Ohtani’s four-pitch walk brought in a run. Two of the pitches to Ohtani were borderline.

Quintana allowed just the one run over six innings.

Just as quickly as the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead, a leadoff walk, balk and throwing error to third base by Will Smith allowed the Brewers to score the tying run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The game remained tied until Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Scott allowed three singles and one run in the ninth en route to blowing his sixth save of the season. That’s one away from tying a career high in blown saves during the 2022 season with the Miami Marlins.

The Brewers scored the game-winning run off Kirby Yates in the 10th inning for their walk-off win.

Dodgers vs. 500 teams

The Dodgers are now mired in their first six-game losing streak since April 8-13, 2019. Moreover, they dropped to 21-22 this season against teams with a winning record.

They also are now 0-6 in a stretch of playing nine consecutive games heading into the All-Star break against teams over .500.
