Phase 2 of 2025 MLB All-Star Game voting concluded on Wednesday, which saw Los Angeles Dodgers teammates Freddie Freeman and Will Smith join Shohei Ohtani as starters for the National League.
Mookie Betts, Tommy Edman, Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages were the other Dodgers players who advanced to Phase 2 as All-Star finalists, but they each fell short of earning a starting role.
Betts has started in six of his eight career All-Star Game appearances, including four with the Dodgers. Muncy was an NL reserve but started at designated hitter in the 2021 Midsummer Classic and came off the bench two years before that.
As for Edman and Pages, they were both looking for their first career All-Star selections.
Reserves and pitchers for this year’s exhibition are going to be revealed at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, so it is possible the aforementioned players will still earn a spot on the NL roster.
The 2025 MLB All-Star Game is being played at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 15.
Dodgers not voted All-Star Game starters
Mookie Betts
Betts trailed New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor throughout the voting process and could not catch him despite totals resetting for Phase 2. Some of that could be attributed to Betts’ ongoing slump at the plate despite his stellar play at shortstop.
Tommy Edman
Similarly, Edman trailed the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte in voting among NL second basemen and never took the lead at any point.
Max Muncy
Muncy is another Dodgers player who consistently was in second place for voting at his position. San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado led in both updates during Phase 1 and now will start for the NL.
Teoscar Hernández
Hernández was in position to be among the three starting NL outfielders up until the latest All-Star Game voting update. That revealed Hernández had fallen to fourth, and he failed to move back into the top three for a third career All-Star selection.
Andy Pages
Pages at one point was seventh among NL outfielders in All-Star Game voting, but wound up receiving a late surge from fans to qualify as a finalist. However, he dropped to sixth place in MLB’s update on Tuesday morning and never made up enough ground.
