Recap: Michael Conforto, Shohei Ohtani Hit Home Runs In Dodgers’ Comeback Win Over Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a sluggish start and capitalized on sloppy defense by the Colorado Rockies to notch their MLB-leading 30th come-from-behind win of the season.

Coming off a rare win this year, the Rockies provided Germán Márquez with an early 2-0 lead that he upheld through three innings. To that point the Dodgers had just two baserunners in the game, stranding Will Smith’s leadoff single in the second and Michael Conforto’s double to start the third.

But the game took a sudden turn when Freddie Freeman reached on Michael Toglia’s error to lead off the fourth inning. Singles by Smith and Max Muncy loaded the bases with nobody out, and Teoscar Hernández’s RBI groundout cut the Dodgers’ deficit in half.

They then pulled even when Andy Pages grounded to Toglia, and he inadvertently threw wide of home plate on the fielder’s choice. Michael Conforto turned the questionable decision into an ill-advised one as he followed with a three-run home run. That not only gave the Dodgers a lead but Conforto his first game this season with more than one RBI.

Toglia’s second error of the inning allowed Tommy Edman to reach second base, and Mookie Betts took advantage with a two-out RBI double. Betts later added a single for his first multi-hit game since June 7.

After the Rockies scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, Shohei Ohtani responded the next inning with a two-run home run to the opposite field.

Justin Wrobleski pitched five innings and allowed two runs while setting a career high with seven strikeouts in his bulk role. Jack Dreyer allowed one run in the first inning as the opener.

Kirby Yates allowed a run in the seventh inning before Alex Vesia entered to limit the damage. Anthony Banda allowed a run while he was still pitching in the eighth inning before Tanner Scott entered and gave up a two-run double en route to completing his first four-out save of the season in the Dodgers’ 9-7 win.

Hernández provided insurance with an RBI double in the top of the ninth inning.

Dodgers road trip

Next for the Dodgers is Yoshinobu Yamamoto starting before Clayton Kershaw takes the mound in the series finale at Coors Field. Their road trip will conclude with a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals, during which Ohtani is likely to make his third start as a pitcher on Saturday.
