Dodgers Recall JT Chargois From Triple-A Oklahoma City To Take Place Of Julio Urias, Who Is On Administrative Leave During MLB Investigation

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled JT Chargois from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of beginning a two-game series with the San Diego Padres. Chargois takes the place of Julio Urias, who was placed on administrative leave amid MLB’s investigation into an alleged domestic dispute.

Urias was arrested Monday night and released in the early hours of Tuesday morning after paying the $20,000 bail. Urias’ absence could be extended should MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and his office not yet be in position to conclude their investigation.

Manfred retains authority to levy a suspension, which have ranged from 15 to 100 games under MLB’s revised Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy that was put into effect in 2016.

“We learned about the alleged incident this morning and are in the process of gathering information,” the Dodgers said in a statement Tuesday morning.

“As a result, we have no comment at this time regarding the incident. However, every allegation of domestic violence must be taken seriously and addressed promptly, and we will cooperate fully with the authorities and Major League Baseball to ensure that that happens in this case.”

Urias has appeared in nine games (four starts) thus far during the 2019 season, going 2-2 with two saves, a 3.18 ERA, 3.04 FIP and 1.10 WHIP.

Chargois joins the Dodgers for a second time this season. He retired two of three batters faced in his 2019 debut, then followed it by allowing two runs (on a homer by Marcell Ozuna) in one inning of work.

Chargois appeared in a career-high 39 games for the Dodgers last season, pitching to a 3.34 ERA, 3.87 FIP and 1.27 WHIP. The right-hander has made the most of his opportunities with Oklahoma City this year, going 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 11 games.

Opponents hit a respectable .236 off Chargois had 19 strikeouts against five walks across 15.1 innings pitched for Oklahoma City.
