Evan Phillips’ Injury: Dodgers Growing ‘Concerned’

Evan Phillips is among the Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers who have missed a significant amount of time this season due to injury.

The right-hander was on the injured list to begin the year because of the same right shoulder trouble that prevented him from pitching in the World Series. Phillips wound up missing the first 21 games of the season with what was deemed a right rotator cuff strain.

Phillips made his 2025 debut in April and pitched in seven games before landing back on the 15-day injured list with right forearm discomfort. After some initial hope he would return quickly, the 30-year-old was shut down from throwing due to an MRI that showed inflammation in his right elbow.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted that he is becoming worried with Phillips and doesn’t know when he will throw again, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“It’s starting to get a little concerning,” Roberts acknowledged. “I don’t know how long we can give it until he can attempt to start playing catch again. I’m getting a little kind of concerned, but hoping for the best.”

Phillips received a PRP injection earlier this month for the lingering pain, but he has not been able to resume baseball-related activities to this point and it raises the question if he is now facing a prolonged absence.

In other positive injury news, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell and Blake Treinen have all resumed throwing as they work their way back to the Dodgers.

Evan Phillips’ 2025 stats

Phillips has been a big part of the Dodgers’ success over the last few years and compiled 5.2 scoreless innings across seven appearances prior to his latest IL stint.

Phillips initially downplayed any concern over his forearm injury, but that has been followed by multiple weeks of little to no improvement.
