J.P. Feyereisen was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers in order to make room on their 40-man roster. It marked a second time this season the right-hander was DFA’d by a team.
The first instance came while Feyereisen was with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who signed him to a Minor League contract during the offseason. That led to Feyereisen returning to the Dodgers organization at the beginning of May when they claimed him off waivers.
He was added onto their active roster less than a week later but got optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City the following day. Feyereisen returned May 13 as the corresponding roster move to Roki Sasaki being put on the 15-day injured list. That too was a short stint up with the Dodgers as Feyereisen was optioned two days later.
He went 0-2 with an 11.25 ERA while pitching in four games for L.A. Feyereisen had a 9.64 ERA in four appearances for the Comets.
Feyereisen originally joined the franchise in December 2022, when the Dodgers traded Minor League pitcher Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays. Feyereisen at the time was facing a prolonged recovery from right shoulder surgery.
He didn’t pitch at all during the 2023 season but was included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series in 2024.
Overall last season, Feyereisen went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 10 appearances for the Dodgers that were spread across multiple stints as he filled an organizational depth role. While with Oklahoma City that same year, Feyereisen was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts).
Why did Dodgers DFA J.P. Feyereisen?
The Dodgers needed to make room on their 40-man roster for the signing of Chris Stratton, resulting in the Feyereisen DFA. Bobby Miller was optioned to Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to Stratton joining the Dodgers’ active roster.
