The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the 2025 season with a talented roster that had many forecasting a potential new all-time MLB wins record.
But injuries and inconsistent performances have surfaced, and it’s stirred up questions over the likelihood of the Dodgers being active at the MLB trade deadline. Beyond pitching, one area that looked like a possibility of being addressed was third base.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers are among the teams with interest in Ryan McMahon if the Colorado Rockies make him available for trade:
Several teams, including the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, are closely monitoring Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon in case he’s traded this summer.
Max Muncy got off to a slow start but has shown signs of improvement recently. Muncy is in the final year of his contract, though the Dodgers hold a $10 million club option for 2026.
On the other hand, McMahon is signed through the 2027 season, but is due to make $16 million in each of the final years of his deal.
McMahon is a good defender with positional versatility around the infield, but is most comfortable at third base. He can be a contributor on offense, though has never finished a season with a wRC+ above 97. As with any position player from the Rockies, there is also the impact of playing at Coors Field to consider.
McMahon’s offensive splits are clearly stronger at home than on the road, with his slugging percentage, wOBA and wRC+ skewed toward Coors Field.
The MLB trade deadline this year is 3 p.m. PT on Thursday, July 31.
Dodgers hoping for more consistency from Max Muncy’s swing
Muncy’s modest resurgence of late included a walk off sacrifice fly in Tuesday’s 4-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks to snap a four-game losing streak for the Dodgers.
While Muncy has been putting up more positive results in his past 15 games, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts hopes to see moreconsistency with his swing as the season goes on.
