Dave Roberts: Dodgers Want ‘Nail’ Rehab Process For Injured Pitchers

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ current starting rotation is far from the group they were projected to have at the beginning of the 2025 season.

Three of their most high-profile signings in the past two offseason cycles are currently on the injured list. The Dodgers are paying almost $61 million in salary between Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, but have only received a combined 27 innings from the duo so far this season.

Roki Sasaki’s rookie season has also been interrupted with a trip to the injured list.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Dodgers additionally remain without Blake Treinen, Evan Phillips and Kirby Yates, among others. Yates was the Dodgers’ most recent loss, exiting the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday and getting placed on the 15-day IL.

The Dodgers have been resilient in these situations thanks to the guidance of manager Dave Roberts Roberts and the front office’s ability to find pieces to bridge the gap. Even with the predicament the Dodgers pitching staff finds itself in, the organization is prioritizing their availability for the final stretch of the season and the playoffs.

“With most of our guys, where we’re at now, we’ve got to make sure we nail it as far as getting them back and not rushing them to have them back for the last third of the season,” Roberts said of how the Dodgers are managing the rehab process for the team’s injured pitchers.

Unlike in previous seasons, the Dodgers will not have the privilege of a comfortable division lead to sit on until the roster gets healthier. The San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks are providing stiff competition and should continue to do so throughout the season.

The situation isn’t completely dire for the Dodgers, as they still posses plenty of talent on their roster to win games. The offense has been a top-three unit in MLB this season, and their rotation could stabilize with some collective improvement until Glasnow, Snell and Sasaki are able to return.

Dodgers pitching updates

The good news for the Dodgers is strong number of their injured pitchers are trending in a positive direction. That includes Glasnow, Snell, Sasaki and Treinen.

However, none of them are necessarily on the verge of returning.

The closest pitcher seemingly to doing so is Michael Kopech, who struggled in his fourth rehab appearance on Tuesday.
