Dodgers Roster: Teoscar Hernández Activated, James Outman Optioned

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Teoscar Hernández off the 10-day injured list and optioned James Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City before the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Outman returning to Oklahoma City had long been viewed as a foregone conclusion once Tommy Edman or Hernández was ready to return. Edman was reinstated on Sunday, though the corresponding roster move was the Dodgers released Chris Taylor.

The Dodgers were facing a roster crunch of sorts as Hyeseong Kim has performed well in an opportunity that was created when Edman landed on the IL.

Outman joined the Dodgers roster when Hernández went on the injured list with a left groin strain. He appeared in nine games (six starts) and went 3-for-24 with two home runs and four RBI after getting recalled. Outman last played when he was in the lineup on Friday night.

It marked his second stint up with the team this season, though Outman did not play in the Tokyo Series after being included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster.

Outman has hit .254/.322/.508 with seven doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 27 RBI in 32 games for the Comets thus far in 2025. Outman had a five-game hitting streak but was hitless on May 3 and 4, going a combined 0-for-7 with six strikeouts during that span.

Teoscar Hernández makes quick return

When Hernández first went on the injured list, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts suggested he was going to miss an extended period. However, Hernández’s condition quickly improved and the outlook became more optimistic.

In addition to Edman, Hernández took live at-bats against Emmet Sheehan and Dodgers prospect Maddux Bruns last week. He then ran the bases on Friday before playin in a rehab game with the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

Hernández played four innings in right field and went 0-for-1 with two walks. It was his first game since May 5, when he sustained the left groin strain against the Miami Marlins.
