Athletics Rookie Jacob Wilson Makes MLB History At Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers had an off day after their longest road trip of the season but still started their homestand on the wrong note in an 11-1 loss to the Athletics.

The A’s were led by rookie standout Jacob Wilson as he enjoyed a successful homecoming. The Los Angeles native grew up in Thousand Oaks and regularly attended games at Dodger Stadium as a child.

He’s the son of Jack Wilson, who enjoyed a 12-year Major League career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves.

Jacob Wilson went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in the blowout win against the Dodgers. According to Martín Gallegos of MLB.com, Wilson became the first rookie to ever have four hits and two homers at Dodger Stadium:

Per our MLB Research Team, Jacob Wilson is the first visiting rookie in MLB history to collect four hits and two home runs in a game at Dodger Stadium.

Wilson opened the game with a leadoff single but his presence was truly felt with two-run home runs in the third and fifth innings. Wilson’s first blast broke up the scoreless tie and his second homer gave the A’s some breathing room with a 4-1 lead.

It was the first time Wilson hit multiple home runs in a single game and his four RBI set a career high.

He enters play Wednesday leading all qualified rookies this season in batting average (.363), hits (58), doubles (nine) and RBI (26).

Each of Wilson’s two homers came against Landon Knack to spoil an outing that otherwise had some encouraging signs. Knack tied a career high with eight strikeouts but only logged 4.2 innings and was hurt by mistake pitches to Wilson.

“The first one was just a backed-up slider. Unfortunate, because the slider had been feeling pretty good. It was the first one to back up and he took advantage of it,” Knack said. “Last inning, got behind him a little bit, got that fastball and didn’t miss it. The guy is a very good player.

“It’s just trying to keep him off timing a little bit. Try to move him back and forth a little bit. The guy does kind of seem to hit everything. He’s a very good player. I’ve got to execute a little better.”
