Dodgers Injury Updates: Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Tommy Edman & Teoscar Hernández

Injuries continue to mount for the Los Angeles Dodgers with Roki Sasaki’s name recently added to the list, joining the likes of Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández.

Snell and Glasnow were scheduled to resume throwing over the weekend as they work their way back from their respective injuries. However, only Glasnow managed to do so and Snell was pushed back to Sunday before it was canceled altogether due to his shoulder discomfort still lingering.

Edman has been on the 10-day injured list since April 29 with right ankle inflammation that he can’t seem to fully shake. Hernández has missed the Dodgers’ past seven games with what appeared to be a severe left groin strain at first, but his recovery has unfolded remarkably well. He is currently expected to return earlier than anticipated.

Dodgers updates

Blake Snell

Snell completed his visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday to make sure everything checked out from an orthopedic perspective.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Snell was going to begin a throwing program on Wednesday if given the green light. But when asked if there was an update following the Dodgers’ loss to the Athletics, Roberts said he did not yet have any additional information or clarity on if Snell gained that clearance.

Tyler Glasnow

Glasnow began his throwing program prior to his scheduled meeting with ElAttrache. The meeting went well enough from all indications as Glasnow will continue to progress toward a bullpen session.

“Tyler started a throwing progression. He’ll continue to work toward a bullpen, and we’ll have a more clear picture later this homestand. But he has started throwing a baseball,” Roberts said.

Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernández

Both Edman and Hernández completed rehab drills prior to the Dodgers’ game against the A’s on Tuesday and their live batting practice session will proceed as planned.

“Tommy and Teoscar are doing some drills. They’re going to do a live batting practice with Emmet Sheehan on Wednesday.”

Edman still appears to still be a ways away from being ready to be activated, as his ankle is still giving him trouble. But Hernández has a chance to return once he is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list if he maintains his current trajectory with no setbacks.

“I’m hopeful for Teoscar,” Roberts said. “We’ll see how it goes, but maybe later this weekend. Something like that. I think at the end of the day, we’ve just got make sure once we activate these guys that we don’t have any setbacks.”
