Dodgers Injury Updates: Blake Snell & Tyler Glasnow Meeting With Dr. Neal ElAttrache

The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently without two of their most important starting pitchers in Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow because of respective shoulder trouble.

Snell signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers during the offseason but made just two starts before landing on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder inflammation. Glasnow has also been sidelined since the end of April because of right shoulder inflammation.

Both pitchers were expected to resume throwing over the weekend, but only Glasnow managed to do so. Snell was pushed back to Sunday, but did not end up playing catch because of lingering shoulder discomfort.

Snell and Glasnow are now scheduled to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Snell and Tyler Glasnow (who did begin throwing this weekend) will visit with Dr. Neal ElAttrache again on Monday. The visit was previously scheduled.

It can be concerning when players meet with ElAttrache, but the visit was planned prior to the latest developments for both pitchers.

This now marks a second time that Snell’s expected throwing progression has stalled. He was briefly shut down upon being put on the IL but managed to resume playing catch relatively quickly.

Snell progressed to throwing a bullpen session but had to skip a second one because of left shoulder discomfort. He ultimately received an injection to treat the pain.

An initial MRI showed that Snell did not sustain any structural damage to his left shoulder. He underwent further testing after being scratched from his bullpen session, which revealed that his shoulder remained structurally sound.

Next steps for Blake Snell & Tyler Glasnow

Because he was able to throw over the weekend, Glasnow will likely continue his progression. The Dodgers have maintained his right shoulder is structurally sound but otherwise are frustrated over not having much clarity with what is ailing Glasnow.

Meanwhile, Snell could be facing a prolonged absence depending on what ElAttrache recommends after their meeting on Monday.
