Dodgers News: Tyler Glasnow ‘Felt Off’ In Start Vs. Cubs

Tyler Glasnow struggled with the home run ball, but otherwise turned in a bounce-back performance against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday Night Baseball.

The right-hander allowed three hits, including a pair of solo homers to Pete-Crow Armstrong and Michael Busch, in six innings and finished with seven strikeouts against one walk.

Glasnow was one out away from getting out of the sixth with the game still tied when he gave up the homer to Busch. “Honestly, I feel like today I didn’t really have much going for me,” Glasnow said after the Dodgers’ 4-2 loss to the Cubs.

“I feel in terms of mechanics and trying to do what I wanted to do, I kind of just felt off. I think I got through it pretty well, like you said, it was just the two at-bats, two homers. Just try to move on and forget about it and go out and pitch next time.”

Glasnow felt that he didn’t have a good feel for his mechanics or pitches against the Cubs.

“It’s just everything. Lack of mechanics, I feel like if I was trying to go in, I’d throw it nowhere near where I wanted,” Glasnow explained. “And I feel anytime I tried to get on it and used enough effort, it just kind of got out of whack. So I feel like I just kind of had the 80-85% today and just try to get it over the zone.

“But I think looking back too, the stuff wasn’t terrible, but I think maybe timing was off.”

Even though he wasn’t at his best on the mound, Glasnow was still pleased to get through six innings. “Yeah, I feel like generally times when you feel like that, it goes a lot worse. So I’m happy with the result,” he said.

“It was a frustrating last inning with the homer. But I think generally, when I feel like that, it usually ends a lot worse. So I’m glad I could just get through it and like I said, just go out and try to pitch well the next time.”

Dave Roberts encouraged with Tyler Glasnow

Given the outing Glasnow had against the Philadelphia Phillies, manager Dave Roberts was generally pleased with his performance despite struggling at times.

“It’s a good sign,” Roberts began. “I don’t know, this is my opinion, I think that Tyler sometimes, you’re not trying to strive for perfection, and you’re not always going to feel perfect, and you got to go out there and compete. And for me, that’s what I saw today.

“I just really caution against thinking you can feel perfect, and that’s what takes you to be good in any particular outing. So I applaud him today for going with what he had and getting guys out.”
