For the second consecutive night, the Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves in an early deficit against the San Diego Padres thanks to a first-inning home run by Manny Machado. But yet again, the Dodgers were able to dig themselves out of that hole and come away with a 7-6 victory at Petco Park.

With the Dodgers trailing 3-1 in the sixth, the bats finally got going when Corey Seager hit an infield single and then David Freese walked to begin the inning.

Max Muncy then took the biggest swing off the night, launching a three-run, no-doubt home run to right field to give the Dodgers a 4-3 lead. The inning was just getting started there though.

After Alex Verdugo doubled and Chris Taylor singled, Matt Beaty came up to pinch-hit. He did not waste any time at the plate as he hit the first pitch he saw into right field for a single to extend the Dodgers’ lead and collect his first career RBI.

Just as quickly as L.A. pulled away, the Padres offense was able to battle back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the game. It wasn’t until the top of the ninth inning that the Dodgers managed able to push across the winning run.

Facing Padres closer Kirby Yates, the Dodgers were able to get to him for the second consecutive game. Justin Turner singled to begin the inning, and then after getting two outs, Yates lost his control.

He walked Muncy and hit Russell Martin on the elbow to load the bases for Verdugo, who already had three hits on the night. Verdugo was patient, knowing that Yates was wild, and he was able to draw a walk to bring home the run.

Kenley Jansen issued a walk but tossed a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 12th save of the season, improving the Dodgers to 22-13 and clinching a series victory.
