Michael Grove reported to Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training as one of the multiple relief pitchers who were behind on their schedule due to injury.
The issue dates back to last season when Grove suffered a right shoulder injury that forced him off the Dodgers’ National League Division Series roster.
The injury lingered into this season, making Grove unavailable for Opening Day. The right-hander did not reveal many details of his injury, and the team has also kept it private.
But now, the right-hander underwent surgery on his shoulder and will miss the entirety of the 2025 season, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:
Michael Grove was in a sling this morning in the Dodgers clubhouse. His season is over after shoulder surgery.

Grove likely would have started the season in the Dodgers’ bullpen. Having previously served as a multi-inning arm, his absence will impact the team’s depth.
In addition to his shoulder injury, Grove dealt with a right intercostal strain last season that resulted in spending nearly two months on the injured list. He logged 51 innings over 39 appearances (two starts), pitching to a 5.12 ERA, 3.87 FIP and 1.22 WHIP.
Grove is part of a group of injured Dodgers relievers that also includes Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, and Brusdar Graterol. However, all three are expected to pitch at some point this season.
Grove still has three years of team control remaining after this season as the 28-year-old is set to become arbitration eligible in 2026.
Michael Grove career stats
Over his career, Grove has pitched to a 5.48 ERA and 4.35 FIP across 64 games (20 starts) while striking out 9.10 hitters per nine innings and walking 2.71 per nine.
He has performed better as a bullpen arm, posting a 4.77 ERA and 3.55 FIP compared to his 6.05 ERA as a starter with a 4.98 FIP.
