The Great Lakes Loons announced their coaching staff for the 2025 season, which will see Jair Fernandez return as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ High-A affiliate.

Fernandez led the Loons to a 69-61 record in his first season at the helm last year.

The rest of the Loons’ coaching staff consists of all newcomers in pitching coaches Sean Coyne and Eduardo Dominguez, hitting coach Kevin LaChance, and bench coach Joe Thon.

Coyne most recently served as the pitching coach for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He joined the Dodgers as a development coach in 2022 and was assigned as the pitching coach for the organization’s Arizona Complex League team that same year.

Dominguez joins the Loons staff after serving as one of four pitching coaches for the Dodgers’ teams in the Dominican Summer League last year. The 23-year-old was an international signing of the Dodgers in 2019 and is a native of Madrid, Spain.

LaChance begins his second year as a coach in the Dodgers organization. He most recently was the hitting coach for the ACL Dodgers, who won the 2024 Arizona Complex League championship.

Thon comes over from the Houston Astros organization where he served as the manager of the Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A) for two seasons.

Other newcomers on the Loons coaching staff this season are Gage Cosgrove (performance coach) Alec Schulte (affiliate development associate), Braelin Hence (development coach), Akinori Maeda (athletic trainer) and Ezra Lacina (bullpen catcher).

Opening Day for Great Lakes Loons

The Loons begin their 2025 Minor League season on Friday, April 4, at Dow Diamond with a game against the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Guardians affiliate).

Great Lakes finished in third place of the Midwest League East last season with an overall record of 69-61.
