Spring Training Recap: Reds’ Austin Hays Gets Better Of Tyler Glasnow & Dodgers Bullpen

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to scuffle in Cactus League play as they suffered an 8-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark on Monday.

The Dodgers are now just 1-4 thus far, and fell back into the loss column one day after snapping a three-game skid.

Tyler Glasnow’s 2025 debut got off to a strong start as he struck out the first two batters faced. But that was followed by a pair of singles that set the table for Austin Hays’ two-run double, which gave the Reds a 2-0 lead and marked the start of a big day for him personally.

Glasnow threw 14 pitches in just the one inning of work before getting more throws over in the bullpen before heading into the clubhouse.

Cincinnati created more separation when Hays connected for a two-run homer in the fourth inning that extended their lead to 4-1.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ lone run came courtesy of Eddie Rosario’s RBI single in the third inning.

It was a particularly frustrating afternoon for Chris Taylor, Max Muncy and James Outman. The trio combined to go 2-for-9 with seven strikeouts. Muncy and Outman had one hit each, while Taylor led the group with three strikeouts.

“To the eye, it looks a little more quiet,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Taylor’s batting stance before the game. “I just think for me, it’s a role that is inconsistent as far as the playing time.

“So for me, whatever he can find that’s consistent, that’s lower maintenance and produces more contact, I think that’s something we need from Chris. In the past he has done that, and the last few years we’ve gotten away from that.”

Gavin Lux went 0-for-2 with one walk, one strikeout and one stolen base against his former teammates. Lux, who started at third base, also began an inning-ending double play in the second.

Anthony Banda was first to appear out of the ballyhooed Dodgers bullpen group. He navigated a scoreless inning and Kirby Yates retired the side in order for an encouraging debut with the team.

However, Tanner Scott was unable to follow suit as he surrendered the aforementioned home run to Hays. Scott also hit a batter but collected two strikeouts in his one inning.

Blake Treinen wasn’t overly sharp in his first game of the spring either, giving up an RBI single two batters into the fifth inning and later surrendering a two-run homer to Hays.

Alex Vesia struck out one of three batters faced in the sixth inning.
