Freddie Freeman has been a model of consistency throughout his Major League career, especially when it comes to staying on the field.
Since signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 2022 campaign, Freeman has appeared in 467 of a possible 486 regular season games.
The eight-time All-Star has played at least 147 games in 11 of his 15 MLB seasons. He played in all 162 games on two occasions during his time with the Atlanta Braves (2014 and 2018).
Freeman wants to achieve that with the Dodgers and has a goal of being prepared to play in every game during the 2025 season, via Cary Osborne of Dodger Insider:
“The goal is 162 (games),” he said. “Hopefully it’s 161 because I always take the game off after we win the division. … I’m doing everything I can to make sure I’m ready for 162.”
Freeman takes pride in being one of baseball’s iron men and tries to stay on the field as often as possible.
The 35-year-old missed 15 games during the 2024 regular season due in large part to personal challenges with his son Max battling a neurological disorder. Freeman additionally missed games during the final week because of a sprained right ankle that ultimately required surgery.
Freeman played through multiple injuries during October, which cost him three additional playoff games missed.
Freeman sat out only game during the 2023 season, which came the day after the Dodgers clinched the National League West.
Freddie Freeman ‘perfectly on track’ for Tokyo Series
Freeman made his Cactus League debut on Thursday and revealed he’s going to have to closely manage his surgically-repaired right ankle at least through the All-Star break.
Among other courses of action, Freeman anticipates that including wrapping his ankle during the first half. He also allowed for the possibility of needing to spend more time as designated hitter if it lines up with Shohei Ohtani’s pitching rehab.
All of that being said, the expectation remains for Freeman to be in the Dodgers lineup on Opening Day.
