The Los Angeles Dodgers filled out their Major League roster with the signings of Clayton Kershaw and Kiké Hernández to cap off what had been a busy offseason, but they have continued to add organizational depth.
They recently signed Luis García to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training. The right-hander spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox after signing a one-year deal.
In addition, the Dodgers also added to their position player depth. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers signed Michael Chavis to a Minor League deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training as well:

Chavis has spent parts of five seasons with the Boston Red sox, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. He spent the 2024 season in the Minor League organizations of the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox.
Chavis has played first base, second base and third base, along with both corner outfield spots in his career. He is primarily a first baseman with extensive time at second base as well.
The right-handed hitter has batted .238/.283/.401 with 42 home runs, 133 runs scored, 142 RBI, eight stolen bases and an 80 wRC+.
Chavis’ best season came in his rookie year in 2019 with the Red Sox when he hit .254/.322/.444 with 18 home runs and a 96 wRC+. His last season at the Major League level was 2023 with the Nationals, when Chavis batted .242/.281/.341 with two home runs and a 69 wRC+.
Chavis was picked in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2014 MLB Draft. During the 2018 season, he was ranked as the 79th overall prospect by MLB Pipeline and 95th by FanGraphs.
Michael Chavis’ role with Dodgers
He is likely to spend most of the season with the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets and serve as organizational depth. Chavis could make his debut with the team if the Dodgers are in need of a bench player, but he may also have an opt-out in his contract by a certain date if not on the MLB roster.
