While the Los Angeles Dodgers have been making waves the past two offseasons with big free-agent signings, they have also continued developing a promising crop of youngsters in their farm system, with Zyhir Hope emerging as one of their most talented up-and-comers.
It is why the Dodgers have been successful for so long as they don’t have an over-reliance on one aspect of roster building but instead exhaust all avenues of making their team better. That’s included remaining mindful of talented prospects who can make an impact in the future.
The Dodgers identified Hope’s talent early as he was an 11th-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2023 MLB Draft. He had only appeared in 11 games for the Arizona League Cubs at the point of being incldued in a trade with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers’ return on investment has grown exponentially as Hope has risen from an unranked prospect to No. 8 overall on the Baseball Prospectus top 101 list for 2025.
Executives from around the league seem to believe that 2025 will be a breakout year for Hope as he was the leading vote-getter in a recent poll, according to Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com:
Zyhir Hope leads voting with 11.4% for Breakout Prospect poll of executives by MLB Pipeline.
Hope definitely provided plenty of evidence to encourage that belief as he hit .290/.419/.484 with 16 doubles, nine home runs and 36 RBI across two levels of the Minors in 2024. Hope did a majority of his damage with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, where he played 54 of 61 games last season.
Hope’s ascent could not be coming at a better time as the Dodgers will be in need of an injection of youth to lead their outfield in the coming years. Andy Pages is currently the only player on the 26-man roster who can realistically represent the next generation of the Dodgers’ outfield.
James Outman is another potential option but he is in need of a resurgent year in 2025. Hope, along with fellow rising prospect Josue De Paula, has the potential to be a franchise cornerstone down the line.
Zyhir Hope headlines top Dodgers prospects for 2025
In total, a group of five Dodgers prospects cracked Baseball Prospectus’ Top 101 List for the 2025 season.
Hope led the way for the Dodgers’ presence on the list at No. 8. He’s joined by De Paula (No. 9), Dalton Rushing (No. 22), Jackson Ferris (No. 52) and Alex Freeland (No. 82).
